The Design:

Designed for a young professional, the interior strikes a balance between tranquillity, functionality and warmth and provides a place to rest and entertain away from the demands of modern life. Taking inspiration from the unique atmospheric condition of the location ‘between’ the city and the mountains, the interior creates balance in these juxtaposing landscapes. With a focus on comfort, STUDIO ELLA produced an urban sanctuary, characterised by an acute sense of detail and craftsmanship, while retaining a feeling of warmth. The search for timeless minimalism and apparent simplicity was central to the process, using tactile, unassuming materials to achieve a muted elegance.

"VMR Residence is a microcosm of Hong Kong itself – a place where energy and serenity coexist, where the frenetic pace of business is balanced by the tranquillity of natural beauty. Our design strategy was to capture the essence of this duality, creating a space that reflects the city's spirit and the lifestyle of its professionals. 

The location of the site is archetypal Hong Kong. As you take the steep twisted journey from the shiny metropolis up the mountain, the landscape quickly becomes wild and engulfed by huge roots bursting through the tarmac and entangled vines. The city is intertwined with nature and that blurred place 'between' really interests us. The interior concept merges the dynamic energy and clean lines associated with the built environment with the more ephemeral and earthy, elemental notions of nature."
